Hello, I'm Artemus Root, an Essex-based author of contemporary comedy novels about ordinary people who stumble into extraordinary trouble. My books blend eccentric characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, a little mystery and a touch of romance—all wrapped up in plenty of heart and humour.

I was born and raised in Essex, though I'd like to think I don't quite fit the stereotypical "Essex man" mould—apart from the occasional dropped aitch.

I've always been fascinated by the absurdities of everyday life and the unexpected situations people find themselves in. Most of my ideas begin as quick notes in the notebook I carry almost everywhere—a passing remark, a peculiar moment or a chance encounter. Those little observations often grow into stories where an ordinary life gets turned completely upside down.

So far, I've published three novels: A Nice Rebellion, The Ghost Lovers Dance and Six Numbers. Each tells a different story, but they all share the same spirit—memorable characters, plenty of laughs, unexpected twists and satisfying endings.

When I'm not writing novels, I'm usually tinkering with comedy screenplays, still searching for new ways to turn life's little oddities into stories.
